Linda Johnsen, NC Health Info and Communications Manager at the Health Sciences Library provides an overview of the managing your healthcare section of the site.
Hi, I’m Linda Johnsen. I’m a librarian at the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
NC Health info is the Health Sciences Library’s Consumer Health website. This online guide to reliable health information is specifically tailored for people in North Carolina. It is maintained by librarians here at the Health Sciences Library as well as by a number of volunteer librarians across the state of North Carolina.
The managing your health care section of NC Health Info outlines how to become a more informed patient by providing reliable resources on navigating the healthcare system.
In order to get to the managing your health care section, type in nchealthinfo.org in the url field. On the homepage you will find this section here.
Navigating the healthcare system can be an overwhelming and sometimes frustrating experience. Learning about health insurance, medical records, advanced directives, as well as where to find trusted resources on these and related topics can help you become a more informed patient. Thereby increasing your odds of successfully managing your health care.
On managing your health care page you’ll see a number of important topics on how to become a more informed patient. From choosing the right health insurance, to learning about medical records and how to talk with your doctor.
Let’s say you want to learn more about health insurance. Simply click on the title, and you’ll see a number of boxes in which this topic is covered in more detail including understanding health insurance, tutorials and videos, free and discounted services, North Carolina resources, Medicare and Medicaid, Tricare, and other insurance types. If you click on any of these links it will take you to reliable and easy to understand resources relevant to health insurance. These resources have been carefully selected by librarians at the health Sciences Library. However, we do not maintain
them so when you click on any of these external links they open in a new tab and you leave NC Health info.
Librarians at the Health Sciences Library are here to help with your health information needs, so please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you have a health related question, the Ask Us box links to a page that allows you to reach our librarians through email or chat.
