OverviewLaunched in January 2003, NC Health Info was the first resource of its kind to link local health services with corresponding information in MedlinePlus, the consumer health Web site maintained by the National Library of Medicine. Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library and School of Information and Library Science developed the “Go Local” system, which has since served as a model for other state and regional health-information sites.
Please Note: For more information on Go Local, visit The NLM-Hosted Go Local System: an Opportunity for Medical Libraries. The NC Health Info project team has collected and cataloged Web sites from around the state, using the Healthy Carolinians 2010 objectives as a guideline to ensure that the collection reflects the health needs of North Carolinians. We continue to add Web sites and ask all users to help us.
SponsorshipNC Health Info is a joint project of the Health Sciences Library and the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. The project is headed up by Carol Jenkins, Director of the Health Sciences Library, and Joanne Gard Marshall, Alumni Distinguished Professor and Former Dean of the School of Information and Library Science. Based at the Health Sciences Library, under the direction of Diana McDuffee, the project is part of the university's mission "to extend knowledge-based services and other resources of the University to the citizens of North Carolina and their institutions to enhance the quality of life of all people in the State." For more information about the organizations and individuals involved in this project, please see the People & Partners page. |
