Northwest AHEC Link

Many of us have found MedlinePlus, http://www.MedlinePlus.gov the consumer health information service developed by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, to be very useful in providing high quality information on a wide variety of health topics for patients and their families.
Now a new services is available - NC Health Info http://www.nchealthinfo.org -- which offers access to over 1466 web sites of local health services, providers and programs serving residents of North Carolina.
NC Health Info is a joint project between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the National Library of Medicine. It links health topics from MedlinePlus to local resources in North Carolina.
So when you search for information on a topic such as breast cancer, for example, you can find information on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, and the latest news through MedlinePlus, then you can "Go Local" and find links to providers and services, including local support groups in a particular county or all of North Carolina through NC Health Info.
With the exception of a very few core resources (hospitals, health departments), only resources with a web presence are included in NC Health Info. The NC Health Info project team has collected and cataloged web sites from around the state, using the Healthy Carolinians 2010 objectives as a guideline to ensure that the collection reflects the health needs of North Carolinians.
New web sites are continuously being added and all users are asked to help by suggesting any web sites that have been missed. If you know of a resource that you would like to recommend you're encouraged to use NC Health Info's Suggest a Site form (http://www.nchealthinfo.org/suggest.cfm).
