Linda Johnsen, NC Health Info and Communications Manager at the Health Sciences Library provides an overview of the providers and services section of the site.
Hi, I’m Linda Johnsen. I’m a librarian at the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
NC Health info is the Health Sciences Library’s consumer health website. This online guide to reliable health information is specifically tailored for people in North Carolina and it is maintained by librarians here at the Health Sciences Library as well as by a number of volunteer librarians across the state of North Carolina.
The providers and services section in NC Health Info outlines and describes the kinds of doctors and providers that might make up your healthcare team. It also serves as a gateway to reliable directories of services, programs, support groups, and organizations relevant to your specific condition.
In order to get to the providers and services section type in nchealthinfo.org in the url field.
On our homepage you will find this section here.
Managing certain health conditions can be confusing and overwhelming for newly diagnosed patients and their loved ones. This section helps you get a sense of the different types of medical providers that are available to help manage your condition. It also provides access to a number of reliable directories that enable you to search for relevant providers based on criteria like location and services provided.
Let’s say you want to learn more about managing asthma. Simply click on the title and you’ll see a number of topics relevant to managing asthma.
Each of the providers and services pages are arranged the same way and are easy to navigate.
You can either click on the individual subsections like this, or you can simply scroll down the page.
The first paragraph provides a brief introduction to the condition in this case asthma as well as a link to our main page on asthma.
As you move down the page to the next section you’ll find a description of the type of providers relevant to frequently diagnose conditions.
Each section includes a link to a directory where you can search for a provider based on your individual needs, such as location, accepted health insurance plans, etc.
These directories have been vetted by librarians at the Health Sciences Library.
However, we do not maintain them so when you click on any of these directories or external links they open in a new tab and you leave NC Health Info.
Librarians at the Health Sciences Library are here to help with your health information needs, so please do not hesitate to contact us. If you have health related questions, the Ask Us button links to a page that allows you to reach our librarians through email or chat.
